G. A. COLE LAID TO REST

The funeral services for the late George Cole, who passed away at the Methodist hospital at Des Moines Monday evening last week, were held at Salem church Thursday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Olaf Holen. A large congregation was present to pay their last respects to the deceased. The choir, of which the deceased had been a member, sang two songs.

George Anton Cole was born on the farm on which he lived, on August 5, 1878, and died Friday 20, 1928, at the age of 49 years, 7 months and 15 days. On December 24, 1902, he was married to Clara Nerem, and they were to have celebrated their fifth wedding anniversary last year, but on account of his illness it could not be held. Mr. Cole had not been well for a number of years, but was able to be up and around until last December.

About three weeks ago he was taken to the hospital, but was too weak to undergo an operation and failed gradually until he passed away Monday evening last week. After his death an autopsy was held which revealed an infected liver.

He leaves to mourn his death, his widow and 7 children, Arnold, Morna, Abbie, Ernest, Virgil, George and Orville. there are also seven brothers and one sister, Henry, Ishmael and Oscar of this place, Enoch of Pleasant Prairie, Wis., Oliver of Forest City, Alfred of Newhall, and Lewis of Alberta, Canada, and Inger who lives here, and also two grand children Ethyleen and Joel Cole. He was laid to rest in the Roland cemetery.

Mr. Cole was an active worker in his church and his presence there will be missed, as well as with his family and friends in the community in which he had been a prominent resident all his life.
