Funeral Services Held Here Saturday for Pioneer Nevada Man

Funeral rites for Harry Belcher, 78, of 134 K avenue, who died at the University hospital Thursday morning, were held Saturday afternoon from the Lilly Funeral home, with Rev. C. E. Lookingbill in charge.

The services were attended by a large group of relatives and friends. Their floral offerings surrounding the funeral bier were many and beautiful.

The music was furnished by Mrs. Florence Rapp and Mrs. Theodore Yackel, while the casket bearers for this longtime employee of the Story County Road Maintenance department were selected from among his associates in that work. They were Harry Kitchen, Earl Webb, George Schultz, L. Bibby, Ed Putmen and Maurice Alderman.

The following brief life sketch of the deceased was read during the service, by the officiating clergyman:

"Harry Harrison Belcher, son of Henry and Cassandra Belcher was born in Iowa Center, Ia., on December 8, 1865, and spent his entire life in Story county. He was united in marriage to Effie Elmore of Nevada, on Sept. 25, 1889. To this union four sons were born, Jesse, who died in infancy, Glen, who preceded his father in death in 1928, at the age of 29, Henry Belcher, who lived in Des Moines and is at present in the Navy, stationed at Norfolk, Va., and Ivan Belcher, who also lives in Des Moines.

Harry Belsher leaves to mourn his departure his wife, Effie, his two sons and two grandchildren, Harry and Jack Belcher of Des Moines, Mrs. Alma Shepherd, step-daughter of Ivan Belcher, and one great grandchild, Larry Shepherd, a sister, Mrs. Flora Cooper, Estherville, and three half-sisters, Mrs. Bessie Boyter of Omaha, and Delia Pickett and Nettie Cage, both of Riverside, Calif.

"Harry Belcher spent 26 years of his life in the employ of the Story County Highway Maintenance department and passed away on April 20th, 1944 at the S. U. I. hospital in Iowa City at the age of 78 years, four months and 12 days. His death came after a long illness following an accident which occurred on January 5th, 1944."
