Funeral Rites for Anna B. Yocum at Iowa Center Monday
Funeral rites for Mrs. Anna B. Yocum, 71, Cambridge woman who passed away at the home of her daughter, Mr. Marion Banks, there on Saturday, were conducted Monday at the Evangelical church in Iowa Center, with Rev. Lookingbill of Nevada in charge and the singers being from the United Brethren church in Cambridge. Burial was in family lot in Evergreen cemetery [should be Woodland Cemetery] at Iowa Center.
The following life sketch of the deceased was read by the minister during the service.
"Anna B. Spurling was born March 3rd, 1873 in Peoria, Ill., a daughter of John H. and Mary Margaret Spurling. The family came to Iowa when this daughter was a small child and settled in Marshall county and there she grew to young womanhood. She then moved with her family to a farm near McCallsburg, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Isaac Yocum on Dec. 25th, 1898 at Zearing. She and her husband then moved to Nebraska for a short time, but returned to Story county where she spent the remainder of her life.
"To this union five children were born, three daughters and two sons. The daughters are Mrs. Clarence Vogt of Nevada, Mrs. John Hollingsworth of Columbus, Miss., and Mrs. Wilbur Banks of Cambridge. The sons are Harry Yocum of Gresham, Ore., and Marvin Yocum of Cambridge. Besides the children she leaves her husband, Isaac Yocum, of Gresham, Ore., and four grandchildren, also four brothers, Charles, Albert and William, all of Nevada and Edward of Mount Pleasant. Her parents, two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death. She passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wilbur Banks in Cambridge, Saturday, March 25, at 2:00 p. m., after a lingering illness of six months, most of which was spent in bed. She was a member of the Evangelical church at Iowa Center."
