Funeral Rites for B. W. Van Pelt

Maxwell, Jan. 8--Funeral rites for the late B. W. Van Pelt who passed away on Friday, December 31, at his farm home near Maxwell, following a stroke of paralysis suffered during the week of Christmas, were held in the local Church of Christ, on Sunday, with the pastor, Rev. S. W. Mahannah and Rev. C. R. Fitz in charge.

Mrs. Miles Cook, E. R. Bell and Arnold Scott sang "Does Jesus Care," "Sweet Hour of Prayer" and "Hide Me," with Mrs. ---d Pearson as accompanist. Casket bearers were John Osborn, ---les Cook, Finley Stebbins, Ray Goeden, Claude Ballard and Eldon Richardson.

Bernard Willim Van Pelt son of David and Immogene [Emmagene] Van Pelt was born May 12, 1882, in Boone county and died at his home near Maxwell, December 31, 1943, at the age of 61 years, 7 months and 19 days, being one of 12 children.

On February 1, 1905 he was united in marriage to Miss Lillie Hayer [should be Heyer] of Jefferson, Ia. To this union eight children were born, 3 of whom preceded him in death.

The family made its home near Beaver, Iowa for about five years. In the spring of 1910 they moved to South Dakota and live there until the fall of 1933 when they moved back to the Beaver community. They lived there until the spring of 1940 when they purchased their present home, south of Maxwell. Mr. Van Pelt had been engaged in farming all of his life with the exception of three years when he was engaged in the implement business. Besides his wife he leaves five children, namely, Mrs. Bernice Callihan, of Woonsocket, S. D., Ralph of Perry, Mrs. Olive Smith, of Beaver, Pvt. Bennie, now serving with the U. S. M. C. in the Southwest Pacific and Carol Joy, 2 brothers and 8 sisters, Burton and Albert, Mrs. Lillie Hurst, Mrs. Vada Miller and Mrs. Elva Kirkendall of Ogden, Mrs. Della Phipps of Dallas Center, Mrs. Flora Pommer and Mrs. Flossie Steinshower of Perry and Mrs. Mary Freiberg of Maple Lake, Minn., and 6 grandchildren.

Further services were held on Monday afternoon at the Methodist church at Beaver and intermenet made in the Ogden cemetery.
