Last Rites For Logan Olinger Held Tuesday

Maxwell, Oct. 13--Funeral services for the late Logan B. Olinger were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 in the Presbyterian church with his pastor, the Rev. David S. de Best, officiating. The main auditorium of the large church was well filled with relatives, neighbors and friends, many coming from a distance. Business houses were closed during the services. Floral tributes of esteem were most beautiful and profuse banked on the altar at the church and arranged and carried by Mrs. Wm. Joor, Mrs. Earl Bown, Mrs. C. H. Larsen and Miss Estalline Evans.

A solo "Sunrise", a favorite of the deceased, was sung by Dale John, with Mrs. Lorena Martin accompanist. Pall-bearers were Geo. Cole, C. B. French, R. B. Bullard, J. R. Vallandingham, O. F. Strombeck and H. E. Halverson. Rev. De Best read the following life sketch.

Logan B. Olinger, youngest son of Geo. W. and Anne E. Olinger was born February 20, 1880, on the Olinger Homestead which is now a part of Maxwell October 8, 1944. He attended the Maxwell public school and following that joined with his brother Charles in the Real Estate and Insurance business. As a young man he joined the Presbyterian Church and was a staunch supporter and loyal member, serving on the Board of Trustees for many years as well as many other church committees.

On May 2, 1906 he was united in marriage with Bessie E. Sherman and to this union were born five children four of whom are now living.

Having always been community minded Mr. Olinger served for 10 years as mayor of the town was active in many other affairs, as well being interested in County activities, working for improved roads, schools and public buildings.

Having spent his life time in the Real Estate and Insurance business, Mr. Olinger's acquaintance was state wide. He was member of the State Local Agents Association, and the State Association of Realtors, having been one of the charter members of the latter organization, serving for several years on the executive committee, and the many plaques and letters of commendation presented by the Companies he represented testify to his years of service in the insurance field.

Logan was a friend to every one. His home was always the meeting place for the young people and his "stories" always evoked a chuckle. His judgment and advice were sought and respected by everyone, and his passing will be felt by all in the community.

Surviving Mr. Olinger are his wife Bessie, two sons, Paul B. of Minneapolis, Edwin S. of Richmond, Va., Harriett Scott, Sioux Falls and Mary Pizer of Des Moines, all of whom were at the bedside when he passed away. Also surviving are three grandsons and two granddaughters, two sisters, Mrs. Mary Shaffer of Des Moines and Mrs. Leota Parker of Powell, Wyo. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter and three brothers.

Others of the immediate family who attended the funeral were Mrs. Paul Olinger of Minneapolis, Minn., and Dr. R. M. Scott of Sioux Falls, So. Dak., Mrs. Edwin Olinger of Richmond, Va. was unable to come and Mrs. Paul Pizer is serving with the Merchant Marine Service in Europe.

Among the out of town relatives and friends who attended the funeral are Mr. and Mrs. Ankeny Larson and Mr. and Mrs. J. V. Mullen of Madrid, Mr. and Mrs. Andy Thompson of McCallsburg, Mr. and Mrs. Emmett Brown of Ames, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Sokol, Mr. and Mrs. Claire Fish, Mr. Stephen Carr, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Tomlinson and Mr. Oscar Serbein all of Collins, and Capt. Oscar Serbein, Jr., of Alaska, Mr. and Mrs. Martin McCoy of Colo, Mr. and Mrs. L. G. Scott of Union.
