Last Rites Held for Mrs. Bessie Olinger

Funeral services for Mrs. Bessie Olinger were held May 12, 1955 at the Presbyterian Church in Maxwell. Rev. Glen Hulsebus of Brooklyn, Iowa a former pastor of the Maxwell Church officiated.

Mrs. Jean Mohler was soloist and Mrs. H. C. Larson presided at the organ.

Her cousins served as pall bearers. They were Emlin Douglas of Sac City; Harold Tipton of Nevada; Clair Fish of Collins; Harold Gamble of State Center; Eldon Richardson and Vaughn Ray of Maxwell.

Burial was in the Maxwell cemetery.

Obituary

Bessie Sherman daughter of Silas and Mary Gamble Sherman was born August 28, 1883 on a farm near Maxwell and passed away May 9, 1955 at McKennon Hospital in Sioux Falls, S. D. after a brief illness.

She attended the Maxwell schools and graduated with the class of 1902. She taught in several rural Story County Schools.

May 2, 1906 he was united in marriage to Logan B. Olinger. To this union there were born five children, four of whom survive.

Mrs. Olinger was active in church, school and community affairs and held offices in different organizations of which she was a member.

After the death of Mr. Olinger in 1944, she maintained her home until 1948. At this time she went to Minneapolis to make her home with her daughter. Mrs. Olinger adapted herself to new surroundings and made many new friends and was active in church affairs wherever she resided. Her only brother, Sid G. Sherman preceded her in death in 1946.

Surviving are two sons Paul B. of Chicago, Illinois, Edwin S. of Cincinnati, Ohio, two daughter, Harriett, Mrs. R. M. Scott of Sioux Falls, S. D. and Mary, Mrs. Gordon Nelson of Sioux City, Iowa; five grandsons and two granddaughters and an aunt, Mrs. I. E. Douglas of Maxwell.

Mrs. Olinger had a wonderful personality and her kindness endeared her to those who knew her.
