Funeral Rites Held at Maxwell for Late Wm. Young

Maxwell, Feb. 9--The main auditorium of the local Methodist church was filled to capacity on Friday afternoon Feb. 5th with sorrowing relatives and friends who had gathered to pay a last tribute of respect at the funeral rites for the late William Young. The casket was banked with beautiful floral offerings, a silent testimony of the high regard in which Mr. Young was held.

A regular service was held at the hoe at 1:30 and the funeral rites at the Methodist church at 2 o'clock with the pastor, the Rev. John C. Turner in charge. The prayer was offered by Rev. R. G. W. Collins and the message brought by former pastor, Rev. W. S. Knight. The hymns used were, "In the Garden," and "The Nearer, the Sweeter," sung by Mrs. Ray Gooden and Mrs. H. C. Larsen. A solo, "Sunrise," was sung by Mrs. Ray Gooden with Mrs. G. N. Nelson at the piano.

Six nephews served as pallbearers. They were Warren, Wilford, Tom, Earl, Forrest and Reginald McClannihan.

Mr. Young was a member of the Methodist church and the Jasper county Three Quarter Century Club.

Rev. Turner read in part the following life sketch of the deceased:

"William C. Young, son of Benjamin and Rachel Woods Young, was born near Polk City, Iowa, January 19, 1862. His parents moved to Jasper County when he was a small child where he grew to manhood, assuming a man's work at an early age and helped support the family of ten children.

"He was married to Leuwretha Gibson on November 11, 1883. They established their home in Polk county, near Farrar, only living there a few months when they moved to Jasper county, where they lived several years. They then moved to the old home farm northwest of Collins.

"Four children were born to this union. Two are deceased, Blanche who died July 5, 1913 and Fred L. Nov. 11, 1924.

"He leave to mourn his passing his wife and life long companion; his daughter Alta and son Joseph; two aged sisters, Mrs. Rebecca Hanbury of Des Moines and Mrs. Mary Barron of Kearney, Nebraska; two brothers Ben Young of Centerville, Ia., and Walter Young of Van Hook, North Dakota.

"The grandchildren are Lieutenant Roger L. Young of Camp Campbell, Pembroke, Ky., and wife Harriett; and Ardene C. Young of Maxwell. One cousin, Mrs. John Graham, who is seriously ill. He also leaves a number of nieces and nephews and a host of acquaintances in Story and surrounding counties.

"As one of the pioneers of the county he fulfilled his one great ambition of building up and improving the farms he owned.

"He left the farm and moved to Maxwell in March 1914. He built his present home sixteen years ago.

"He joined the Methodit Protestant church at Bune Vista which is now known as Farrar when a young man and when he moved to Maxwell he brought his membership to the Maxwell Methodist Church.

"With the exception of about two years in Ohio he spent his entire life in this part of Iowa and died at his home in Maxwell February 3rd, at the age of 81 years and 15 days."

W. Reginald McClannahan, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Edwards, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hanberry and Mrs. Rebecca Hanberry, Mrs. Pauline Webster and Mrs. Rachel Gebhardt, all of Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs Forrest McClannahan, of Altoona; Mr. and Mrs. Roy McClannahan, of Hartford; Mr. and Mrs. Gale Pease, Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Schissler and Mrs. Jay Beals, of Colfax; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Gannon and son Leo, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Baldwin, of Mingo; Mrs. Ed Dilly, of Clemons; Mr. and Mrs. Stark Atwood, Mr. and Mrs. Til Morrison, Mrs. Eva Tilton and son Dewey Kern, Mrs. Fred Renfeldt, Mrs. Cora Crabb, Jim Hale, Frank Holland, Curt Campbell, Mrs. John Patterson and son Dieck, Mr. and Mr. F.
