Funeral Services Held for Miss Stone

Maxwell, Nov. 27 – Funeral services for Miss Helen Stone were held in the Presbyterian church, Wednesday afternoon at 2:30, with her pastor, the Rev David S de Best in charge.

Floral offerings of esteem and friendship were very beautiful. Mrs. Harold Mohler sang, “O Love That Wilt Not Let Me Go” and Lead Kindly Light” with Mrs. Gerton Nelson accompanist on the piano. Members of the Eastern Star Chapter and members of the Cornerstone Sunday School Class of which the deceased was a long time member sat in bodies at the service. On account of the cool wind the O. E. S. services which were planned for the grave-side were held in the church following the sermon. During this service Mrs. Mohler sang “Nearer My God to Thee.”

Casket bearers were Barton Rittgers, Martin M. Troup, Henry Thornvall, R. B. Bullard, Gerton Nelson and A. F. Heinrich. Burial was made in the Maxwell cemetery.

Rev. de Best read the following brief life sketch.

Helen M. Stone was born March 25, 1862, at Winslow, Illinois. She entered the teaching profession at the age of 16 years and continued in that work until at the age of 65 when she retired and came to Maxwell, where she has made her home continuously.

She died November 22, 1943 being in her eighty-second year.
