Held Funeral Rites for Maxwell Pioneer Resident
Maxwell, Feb. 8--Funeral services for Frank M. McClure, 86, who died at the University Hospital Iowa City Monday night at 11:45, were held Thursday afternoon in the Church of Christ with the pastor, the Rev. Robert G. W. Collins in charge. A quartette composed of Clark John and son, Dale and Ross Olinger and son Clair sang, "The Old Rugged Cross" and "We Are Going Down the Valley." The flower tributes were very beautiful and were arranged and carried by Mrs. Will Warren and Mrs. Vern Harmon.
Pallbearers were H. E. Alverson, Vern Harmon, Will Warren, Jay Harmon, Ray Boyd and Willis Rupp.
Rev. Collins read the following life sketch. Born Aug. 28, 1875 [should be 1857] in Warren county, Illinois, Mr. McClure came to Iowa in 1859 and most of these 84 years he had lived in the Maxwell community. He was married to Hattie E. Swart of Boone on February 14, 1883, who with two cons survive him. Besides the sons Elba of Ames and Forest, of New Orleans, La., he leaves five grandchildren, Mrs. Maxine Viers and Elba Cook of Maxwell, Mrs. Ruth Nagle of Pontiac, Mich., Mary Lynn and John McClure of Ames, also four great grandchildren, Jimmie and Patricia Ann Nagle and Robert and Billy Viers. Burial ws made in the Maxwell cemetery.
