Funeral Services for Mrs. Ida Thompson Held at Her Home

Maxwell, June 25 -- Funeral rites for Mrs. Ida Thompson were held Monday afternoon at 3:30 at her home in Iowa Center, with her pastor, the Rev. John C. Turner in charge, assisted by Rev. Frank Moore of Afton, a friend of the family.

The floral tokens of esteem very many and very beautiful. Mrs. Harold Mohler sang, "One Sweetly Solemn Thought," and "Face to Face," with Mrs. Boyd Martin as accompanist at the piano.

Pall bearers were A. M. Christy, Virgil Swarm, C. J. Kirk, Emmett Smith, Albert Dykstra and G. F. Carpenter. Interment was in the family lot in the Woodland cemetery at Iowa Center beside her husband, the late Dr. Frank Thompson who died many years ago. Rev. Turner read the following life sketch of the deceased.

Ida Belle Davis, only child of John and Sarah Davis, was born June 29, 1863 in Rushville, Ill. When she was four years old her parents moved to Pleasant Valley near Elwell and the following year to Iowa Center where her father, who was a cooper by trade, conducted a cooperage shop until he passed away in 1874. She received her education in the public schools of Iowa Center and at Cornell college at Mount Vernon. She was married to Dr. Frank Thompson on May 3, 1882. To this union were born three children: Winifred, now Mrs. F. E. Overholser of Lincoln, Nebr.; Mildred, now Mrs. G. N. Nelson of Maxwell, and James of Afton.

Her early married life was spent in Iowa Center. In 1891 the family moved to Cambridge where Dr. Thompson practiced medicine for many years. After her husband's death in 1920, she returned to this, her childhood home, from whence she departed this life on June 19 at the age of seventy-eight years, eleven months and twenty days.

She was a member of the United Brethren church of Cambridge and transferred to the Maxwell Methodist church. Throughout her life she was interested in church and civic affairs and took an active part in them until recent years.

Her home and family were always her first interests. She was a loyal neighbor and a true friend. Her unfaltering faith in a merciful God was an inspiration to those about her, as was her quiet courage in times of trial and affliction. Kindness and patience were virtues with which she was blessed and she was always happiest when helping others. Her final conscious hours were spent in her usual activities about the home. Her illness, while unexpected, was mercifully brief and her passing was peaceful.

She leaves to mourn, three children, five grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and a step-brother, Curtis A. Wood, Iowa Center.
