Memorial Service Held at Maxwell for Late Boyd Maxwell [should be Martin]

Maxwell, Oct. 2 -- Memorial services were held for the late Boyd Martin Sunday, Sept. 28, in the Presbyterian church. The large church was well filled with relatives and friends. The service in charge of a former pastor, Rev. C. E. Burdine with Mrs. Gurton Nelson at the piano. Mrs. Harold Mohler sang "Face to Face" and a double male quartet composed of Gerton Nelson, Harold Mohler, James Beal, Dale John, James Dunahoo, Pershing Johnson, Dorus Myers and Earl Bowen sang "Crossing the Bar" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere."

The floral offerings were very beautiful and were taken car of by Mrs. Harold Link, Mrs. Rollin Coughenour, Mrs. H. C. Larsen and Mrs. A. M. Christy.

The honorary pallbearers, who were past masters of Herald lodge of Maxwell, were Rollin Coughenour, A. M. Christy, Foss Allen, T. C. Couch, John Joor and Henry Thornwall.

Member of the local Masonic lodge and member of the Easter Star chapter attended in a body. At the Peoria cemetery, Dr. Tom Throckmorton of Des Moines, past grand master of the Masonic Grand Lodge of Iowa, had charge of the service and appropriately put away the regalia apron of the deceased in full ritualistic form.

Rev. Burdine read in part the following life sketch.

"Boyd Harley Martin, son of Harley and Mary Martin, was born May 22, 1901, near New Providence, Ia., and lost this life while fishing at Big Sandy lake near Dryden, Ontario, Canada, June 5, 1941, at the age of 40 years and 13 days.

"In the spring of 1902, he moved with his parents to a farm near Farrar, where he spent his youth and grew to manhood. At the time of his father's death, he was living on the same farm. When a boy he joined the Methodist church in Farrar and on Easter Sunday 1937, transferred his membership to the Presbyterian church at Maxwell. He graduated from the Maxwell high school in 1921. He was a member of Herald lodge No. 455 and Annie Laurie chapter, O. E. S., and a past master of Herald Lodge.

"He was united in marriage to Lorena Jones June 2, 1931. To this union two daughters Marilyn Gwen and Catherine Ann were born.

"He is survived by his wife, Lorena and two daughters, his mother, Mary Martin, two brothers, Raymond and Clark and host of relatives and friends."
