Life Sketch of Former Colo Woman

Colo, June 2--Mattie D. Houser, daughter of Williams and Virginia Houser, was born in Richland Center, Wis., April 7, 1873. Her early life was spent in Colo, Iowa.

On August 18, 1895, she was united in marriage to U. S. Gulver [should be Gilger] of Colo. To this union three daughters were born, Mrs. Zella Frank of Pacific Palisades, Cal.; and Mrs. Claudine Keinonen of Alhambra, Cal., and Veva, who passed away in infancy. In June 1919, she was united in marriage to E. C. Stevens of Lyons, Colo., and they made their home in Delroy Beach, Fla., and Cedar Rapids.

She departed from this life at 1:15 a. m., May 21, at her home at 1928-1st Ave. East, Cedar Rapids, leaving her husband, two daughters, four grandchildren, Betty Jean, Nadine and Janet, Frank and Natalie Ann Keinonen, four step-children, Charles Stevens of Cedar Rapids; Claude Stevens of Lyons, Colo.; Mrs. Merle Dyestine and George Stevens of Streator, Ill.; three sisters, Mrs. Eliza Perry of Nevada, Ia.; Mrs. Cora Hess of Lyons, Colo., and Mrs. Myrle Shaw of Cedar Rapids, Ia., and a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends wherever she made her home, to mourn her passing.

She was a member of the Colo Methodist church and served as organist for many years.
