Funeral Services Held at Maxwell for Davenport Man
Special to the Journal:
Maxwell, Aug. 5 -- Funeral services were held at Maxwell for Robert Weir, 82, of Davenport, Friday afternoon at 1:30 at the Presbyterian church.The rites were in charge of Rev. Willis W. Virtue, pastor of the Presbyterian church at Davenport. The floral tributes were most beautiful.
A male quartet composed of Clark John, Dale John, Ross Olinger, and Clair Olinger, sang, "Meet Me There" and "No Night There." Pallbearers were J. E. Bowen, J. H. Cleverley, Morris Bowen, M. E. Smith, Glen Scott and Dale Scott.
Rev. Virtue read the following sketch:
"Robert Weir was born at Petersboro, Canada, Dec. 11, 1858. He came to Monticello at the age of seven, and here, spent his boyhood and attended school, later coming to Maxwell.
"In 1896 he ws married Carrie Grace John. They moved to Davenport in 1900, where he resided until his death. He followed the occupation of drilling wells. He had been an invalid for the past ten years. He was a member of the McClellan Height United Presbyterian church, and a member of the board of trustees for a number of years. His survivors are his wife, Carrie of Davenport; a son Francis Weir of Springfield, Ill.; one granddaughter, Luella of Decatur, Ill.; two sisters, Mrs. I. L. Sears of Davenport and Mrs. W. A. Fairburn of Cascade; one brother, Sam Weir of Nevada.
Among those attending the rites were Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Fairburn of Cascade; Mr and Mrs. I. L. Sears of Davenport; Mr. and Mrs. Willis John Mrs. Grace Wischman, Mr. Bane and Charles Beck and daughter Venadine of Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur B. Cates of Perry; Mr. and Mrs. Weir Sears of Davenport and Sam Weir of Nevada.
Burial was in Maxwell cemetery.
