THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, October 24, 1963, page 1, column 4. "CHARLES B. FRENCH. - Charles Brainerd French, youngest and last surviving child of John O. and Ellen Hutchinson French was born May 27th, 1874 at Olin, Iowa. He departed this life on October 16, 1963 at Des Moines, Iowa. He came to Maxwell in 1881 when his father started a lumber yard here. He graduated from the Gutherie County High School in 1897, afterwards attending the Northwestern School of Pharmacy in Chicago, but graduated from the Highland Park School of Pharmacy in Des Moines in 1899. He entered the Drug business in 1899 and then retired in 1949. He was married to Josephine Higbee in 1900 and they celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 1950. He was an active member of the Maxwell Methodist Church for 75 years, the Maxwell Community Club, Men's Chorus, Iowa Odd Fellows, a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star, a life member of the Izaak Walton League, and a 40-year member of the Mestholatum Club. He also was a member of the Iowa Pharmaceutical Association and Honorary Past President of the Veteran Branch of that Organization and served both the Maxwell Town Council and the School Board. Preceding him in death were his wife in 1968; a son, Charles Arthur in 1946 and one grandson, Lloyd Clark. He is survived by one son, John O. French of Webster City; two daughters, Mrs. L. T. (Catherine)
