THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, February 16, 1922, page 1. "MRS. MARIA FOY DEAD - Mrs. Maria Foy, aged pioneer of north Polk county, passed away Tuesday morning at the home of her niece, Mrs. Pat Murray, in Elkhart. Mrs. Foy had been ill of pneumonia from which she had apparently recovered, but which left her in a weakened condition from which she was unable to rally. Funeral services will be held from St. Mary's Catholic church, Elkhart, Thursday forenoon at 10:00 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Father Larkin, with burial in the Holy Cross cemetery by the side of her husband, Adam Foy, who died several years ago."
THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, February 16,1922. "MRS. MARIA FOY - Maria Jane Lester was born on a farm near Russell, Illinois, June 30, 1840; she lived with her parents until the age of twenty, when she went to Missouri for a short time, coming from there to Polk county, Iowa, to the home of her sister, Mrs. Hugh Carney. Just at the close of the Civil war she was united in marriage to Adam Foy. They purchased a farm in Washington township, Polk county, where Mrs. Foy has continuously resided until three years ago, when she moved to Elkhart and made her home with her niece, Mrs. Patrick Murray, where she died on February 14, 1922, at the age of eighty-one years, seven months and fourteen days; Mr. Foy preceded her in death twelve years ago. Mrs. Foy is survived by one adopted son, Frank, of Colton, Utah; three sisters, Mrs. Robert Cairns, of this place; Mrs. Nellie Schultz, of Kewanee, Ill., and Mrs. Charles Harmon, of Anthon, Iowa. Funeral services were held at St. Mary's church, Elkhart, Thursday, 16th, after which interment was made in the Holy Cross cemetery."
