Mrs. Brendeland Laid to Rest at Palestine Cemetery

Huxley, Nov. 28--Funeral services for Mrs. Lena Brendeland, who died Saturday afternoon were held at Palestine church Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock following a prayer service at the home at 1:30.

A mixed quartette composed of Mrs. W. R. Richardson, Mrs. I. J. Hendricks, R. B. Helland and Burton Tesdall, with Mrs. C. R. Reng at the piano, sang "Going Down the Valley," afer which Rev. Buland had scripture reading. Miss Gladys Rullestad sang a solo "Tell Mother I'll Be There."

Rev. Buland then addressed the large audience and chose for his text the 22nd verse in the 16th chapter of the Book of Job. "When a few years are com, then I shall go the way whence I shall not return." As one who had ministered to her spiritual needs, her pastor pad a beautiful tribute to the life that had been lived in close communion with her Saviour. She was devoted to her home and family, kind and patient and was able to endure her last illness with untold fortitude. The quartette sang another selection "Have Thine Own Way Lord."

In addition to the beautiful floral offerings, there were many gifts given to the missions in her memory by relatives and friends, as well at the Ladies' Aid Society of which she was a faithful member.

Six nephews served at pall bearers, Orin Olson, Michus and Sanford Olson, Gerald and Clarence Hovde and Magnus Olson. The remains were laid to rest in the Palestine cemetery.

The following obituary was read:

Mrs. Lena Brendeland was born Sept. 29, 1864 in Oakland Valestrand, Norway, of the parents, Ole and Malinda Haugen. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Together with her brother she came to America in 1880 and made her home near Cambridge. On July 10, 1886, she was united in marriage to Richard P. Brendeland, who preceded her in death a little over a year ago. They made their home in Sioux County, Iowa, for seven years, later moving on a farm near Huxley. Upon retiring from the farm a number of years ago, they moved to Huxley, where she passed away at her home November 19, 1928 at the age of 74 years, 1 month and 20 days.

To this union, two children were born Ole R. Brendeland and Mrs. Bertha Christopher, both living near Huxley. She is mourned by one sister, Mrs. Hannah Hovde of Roland, two brothers, Martin Olson of Greybull, Wyo., and Lars Olson of Roland and seven grandchildren.

Relatives from a distance, who were here to attend the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Martin Olson and son Orin of Greybull, Wyo., Mrs. White of Portland, Ore., Mrs. Chris Berge of Eagle Grove, Dr. Carl Hoveland of Humboldt, Mr. Richard Hoveland of Rolfe, Mr. and Mrs. Michus Olson of Nevda, Mrs. Sverdrup Sansgaard of Jewell, Mrs. Elliott Thompson, Mr. and Mrs. Chester Ellingson and family of McCallsburg, Mr. Hannah Hovde, Mr and Mrs. Gerald Hovde and family, Mr. and Mrs. Lars Olson, Mrs. Julius Wilson, Mr. Sanford Olson, Mrs. Isabell Olson, Mr. and Mrs. Magnus Olson and Mrs. Swanson of Roland, Mr. and Mrs. Ingvald Hanson and family, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Hovde, Mr and Mrs. Bergeson and Miss Esther Olson of Story City, Mrs. Lars Weeks of Radcliffe, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Olson and family and Mrs. Martha Olson of Randall, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Hickle and family, Mr. and Mrs. Art Buente of Ames; Mrs. Palmer Brendeland of Nevada, Mrs. Lena Brendeland, Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Brendeland, Mr. and Mrs. Ole Brendeland and Mr. and Mrs. Benny Brendeland of Kelley.
