Funeral Services Held at Collins for Bert O'Neil

Special to the Journal.
Collins, Dec. 31--Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the Collins Church of Christ for the late Bert O'Neil, who passed away Dec.22. The Rev. Lawrence Lee of the United Brethren Church was in charge of the services.

Music was furnished by a quartet composed of Mrs. W. E. Young, Mrs. Ivan Mullihan, Mrs. Lloyd Cummings and Mrs. T. E. Huntrods with Mrs. Hugh Fertig as accompanists. They sang "The Old Rugged Cross," "In the Garden," and "Going Down the Valley."

Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery with K. W. Tomlinson, Curtis Marsh, Charles Woltz, Vern Halterman, T. H. Morrison and George Thompson acting as pallbearers. The following obituary was read at the services.

Bert O'Neil was born Nov. 20, 1861 at Princeton, Missouri and passed away in Collins, Ia., Dec. 22, 1943 aged 62 years, 1 month and 2 days.

He lived for a time at Dunbar, Nebraska. In 1907 he came to Collins and was united in Marriage to Lottie Westcott on Sept. 23 of that year, and they had made their home in Story County the greater part of their married life.

Mr. O'Neil united with the United Brethren church while living in Nebraska but in August, 1939, became a member of the Collins Church of Christ serving faithfully the church and Sunday School as long as his health would permit.

In passing he leaves to mourn their loss, his 86 year old mother, Mrs. Sarah Kiser, his wife, Mrs. Lottie O'Neil, six children, Edwin of Chicago, Charles of Elmore, Minn., now in the air force and stationed at Edmonton, Canada, Virgil, and Mrs. Opal Corbin at home, Mrs. Gladys Rhodes of Indianola and Mrs. Maude Patterson, three half-brothers, Milton, Oscar and Leslie Ingersoll of Missouri and five grandchildren.
