Life Sketch of Cye Dykstra Read During Funeral Service

Cambridge, Feb. 22 -- Funeral rites for Cye Dykstra, 32, of near Farrar, who died at the Iowa Lutheran hospital in Des Moines on Thursday, were held Sunday afternoon at Zion church near Farrar, with his pastor, Rev. E. A. Russell, in charge. Burial was in the nearby Graham cemetery.

The services were attended by a large group of relatives and friends.

The following obituary was prepared by his pastor and read during the service.

"Cye Dykstra, son of Charles and Elizabeth Dykstra, was born November 19, 191, near Colfax, Iowa, and passed away at the Iowa Lutheran Hospital, Des Moines, Feb. 17, 1944, at the age of 32 years, 2 months and 29 days.

"While still a small child he moved with his family to Turner, Iowa, near Kellogg. It was here he spent the first twelve years of his life, his parents then moved to a farm near Mingo. It was here he grew to manhood, and joined the Zion Evangelical church in 1927, of which he was a faithful member.

"He was united in marriage to Ionia Baldwin, June 23, 1934. For the first two years of their married life, they resided on a farm near Mingo, then moved to their present home, south of Farrar, where they have lived for eight years.

"His parent having preceded him in death in 1943, he leaves to mourn his loss, his beloved wife, one son, Arlen Ross, age 23 month, eight brothers and sisters: Mrs. Jennie Barnes, Urbana, Iowa; Mr. Bert Dykstra, Maquoketa, Iowa; Mr. James Dykstra, Tipton, Iowa; Mrs. Clara Leonard, Mingo, Iowa; Miss Dora Dykstra, who is in overseas duty; Mrs. Elizabeth Kruse, Wilton Junction, Iowa; Mr. David Dykstra, Lot Nation, Iowa; Mrs. Rose Ellen Vos, McCausland, Iowa; one half-brother, Mr. Marion Groover of Toledo, Iowa, and a host of other relatives and friends.

"He was a faithful member of the church to which he belonged, having held the office of Sunday School Superintendent and assistant superintendent during the years of his membership.

"He was a devoted husband and father, a loyal neighbor in the community, always honest and upright in every respect and standing for the high ideals of real manhood. He was always willing to help his fellow men and will be greatly missed by his many relatives and friends."
