THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, October 29, 1931. "DAVID DENNISTON FUNERAL LAST FRIDAY - David Denniston, 84, one of the pioneer citizens of this part of Iowa, died at his home in Collins at 3:00 a. m. Wednesday, October 21, from a general breakdown due to complications incident to old age. Mr. Denniston, who had lived in Collins for over a quarter of a century, had maintained his own home since the death of Mrs. Denniston, fifteen years ago September 17, but during his illness he had been cared for by his children and other relatives. David Denniston was a son of Samuel and Sarah Denniston and was born in Dark county, Ohio, January 8, 1848. When he was a lad of but nine years he came with his parents to Iowa and they settled on land near Newton, in Jasper county, and in 1864 came over to Story county and located in the Collins community. David was married to Sarah A. Parker, of Collins township, December 21, 1871, and in 1874 they located on the farm just in the west edge of the town of Collins, which has been in the family since and is know as the David Denniston homestead. There their three children were born. A daughter, Bessie, died at the age of three years and he is survived by Henry C. Denniston, who now lives upon the old farm, and Mrs. G. F. Holland, who live in Collins. Twenty-eight years ago Mr. and Mrs. Denniston moved into Collins and the son occupied the farm. It was here that the wife died September 17, 1916. He leaves besides the son and daughter, eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, a brother, Louden Denniston, 86, of Oklahoma City, and various other relatives, besides a wide circle of friends. Mr. Denniston was a member of the Methodist Protestant church at the time the congregation held services in Collins. He was a man who took an active part in every move for the good of the community and was one of the responsible and much respected citizens of this part of the state. Funeral services were held at Collins Friday, with burial in the Collins cemetery."
