Obituary of Mrs. Amos Hanson

Louise Lura, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. K. O. Lura, was born in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois on June 27th, 1873 and passed away at her home in McCallsburg, Iowa June 25th, 1944, just two days prior to her 71st birthday.

At the age of two, she came with her parents to Story County, Iowa and settled on a farm near Roland. Later the family moved to a farm 4 1/2 miles northwest of McCallsburg, where she lived until her marriage to Amos C. Hanson.

Louise Lura was united in marriage with Amos C. Hanson in the year 1892. They resided in McCallsburg continuously until Mrs. Hanson's death. To this union was born five children, two daughters and three sons Mrs. Andy Thompson and Mrs. Earl Menzel of McCallsburg, Albert of Los Angeles, California, and Clarence who preceded her in death. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, three sisters, Alma (Mrs. George Vallem) of McCallsburg, Bertha (Mrs. Ole Nessa) of Lake Mills, Iowa, and Olive (Mrs. Milton Hanson) of Clarkfield, Minnesota; 7 brothers Lewis of McCallsburg, Martin of Garden City, Paul of Thompson, Peter of Roland, Carl of Zearing, Arthur of Marshalltown, and Otis of McCallsburg.

Mrs. Hanson is a member of a unique family in that there 13 brothers and sisters. No deaths occurred in the family until this year when her brother Carneil preceded her in death in April and her sister Inger of Radcliffe, June 13th.

Mrs Hanson was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church and later transferred her membership to the Presbyterian church in McCallsburg.

Mrs. Hanson was a pioneer of McCallsburg territory and has seen it develop from swamp to a well developed, well improved, farming community. Until she became ill about 10 years ago she was very active in the community, always willing and eager to lend a helpful hand to members of her family and her many friends. In early days when doctors were scarce she nursed many a person from sickness to health and it may be that there are persons, who today, owe their lives to the care of her untiring hands.

Mrs. Hanson was very devoted to her husband and her home. The family and friends will long remember how devoted, kind, and attentive Mr. Hanson was to her and especially during her long lingering illness.
