THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, February 4, 1926, page 1. "CYREANUS COWGILL - Cyreanus Free Cowgill, eldest son of Gustafus and Jane Cowgill, was born in Henry county, Indiana, June 10, 1854, and departed this life at him home, 407 E. Fifteenth street, Des Moines, Iowa, Sunday evening, January 17, 1926, at the age of seventy-one years, seven months and seven days. He came to Iowa with his parents when a small boy and settled at Peoria City, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Sylvia Pring. To this union were born two daughters, Francis and Linnie. His wife, Sylvia, and daughter, Linnie, passed on before. On February 24, 1885, he was married to Lucinda Mathis at Des Moines. To this union were born four children, three sons and one daughter. Chas., William, Elmer and Mrs. Sylvia Schauck, all of Des Moines. He was a kind and loving companion and father. Two sisters, Mrs. Chas Ward and Mrs. Harve Thompson, preceded him in death. There remains to mourn his death, his wife, children and four grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. C. L. Sargent, of Maxwell; one half sister, Mrs. Eliza Martin, of Washington, Pa., and one half-brother, James Swarm, of Des Moines, and many other relatives and a host of friends. The funeral was held at Des Moines Wednesday afternoon at 1 p. m. from the Lilly's funeral home with interment in Glendale cemetery."
