THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, September 26, 1901, page 12, column 3. "DIED. James Clutter was born in Mason county, Virginia, February 10, 1818, and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. P. A. Shope, Maxwell, Iowa, September 19, 1901, aged 83 years, 7 months and 9 days. He came to live with his daughter about five years ago, and thus spent the last years of his life with her. The funeral services were held at the house September 21, 1901, at 10:30 a. m., conducted by Rev. Clay Bobbitt, after which he was laid to rest in the Maxwell cemetery."
