Newspaper source and date unknown. "Maxwell Man Died at Maxwell After Long Illness - Maxwell, April 2 - John A. Logan Myers, 65 died at his home here at 9:30 a.m. today, after an illness covering a period of about five years. He was born and reared over in the Corey Grove neighborhood in northern Polk county and had lived in this community a large part of his life. He is survived by his wife and 10 children. The children are Charles of Mitchellville, Orville of Bondurant, Clifford of Nevada, Pearl Mieynek of Earlham, Leslie "Mike" of Maxwell, John of Valeria, Roland of Council Bluffs, Mable of Ames and Violet and Wilber at home. Funeral services will be held at Maxwell Methodist church Thursday at 2 o'clock, with Rev. Judson Perkins in charge. Place of interment is not yet known."

MAXWELL IOWA TRIBUNE, April 4, 1940.** "JOHN A. LOGAN BYERS - 1874-1940 - John A. Logan Byers, son of Jacob and Eliza Byers, was born at Cory Grove, Polk County, Iowa, on June 17, 1874, and died, after a lingering illness, at his home in Maxwell on April 2, 1940; aged 65 years, 9 months and 15 days. Mr. Byers had spent his entire life in Polk and Story Counties. He was born and raised on a farm and continued farming until March 1st of this year, when the family moved to Maxwell. On January 15, 1895, he was united in marriage to Miss Minnie Trowbridge, at Corning, Iowa. To this union eleven children were born. One daughter, Iva (Mrs. Harlan Hart), died May 23, 1934. He professed the Christian faith according to the rites of the Methodist Church, on October 4, 1939. He was a good husband and father; honest and well thought of by all who knew him. Surviving are: His wife, his father, Jacob Byers, of Elkhart; seven sons, Charles, of Mitchellville; Orville, of Bondurant; Clifford, of Nevada; Leslie, of Maxwell; John Jr., of Valeria; Loren, of Council Bluffs, and Wilbur, at home; three daughters, Pearl, Mrs. Charles Mleynek, of Earlham; Violet at home and Mable, of Ames; two half-brothers, George Tolles, of Des Moines, and Bert Byers, of Elkhart; four half-sisters, Mrs. Stella Satterlee, of Des Moines; Mrs. John Frederickson, of Bondurant; Miss Bessie Tolles, of Des Moines, and Mrs. John Kaltenheuser, of Elkhart. Fifteen grandchildren, and many other relatives and a large circle of friends also remain to mourn his death. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 4th, from the Maxwell Methodist Church, Judson T. Perkins, Pastor, being in charge. Burial is to be made in the Bondurant cemetery." **Editorial note - the same obituary was used in THE ALTOONA HERALD, Altoona, Iowa after the 4th of April. In this obituary "funeral services were held at 2 o'clock p. m. on Thursday, April 4th burial was made in the Maxwell Cemetery survived by Leslie, of Mitchellville, Wilbur of Des Moines."
