THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE Maxwell, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, January 30, 1910, page 1. "OBITUARY - Martha Clementine Byers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas M. Byers, was born near Bellefontaine, Ohio, August 6, 1854, and was called from labor to reward at her home in Maxwell, Iowa, at 5:30 p. m. on Tuesday, January 11, 1916, being aged at the time of her death sixty-one years, five months and five days. At about the age of five she moved with her parents to a farm near Aledo, Illinois, and in 1860 to a farm near Mechanicsville, Iowa, where the family lived until 1895, when they moved to Maxwell. On November 28, 1895, she was united in marriage to Henry N. Burroughs, and with her husband went back to a farm near Mechanicsville, where they resided until 1899, when they moved to the farm south of Maxwell. There they lived until 1913 when they moved to their home in Maxwell, where they lived until the end. She is survived by her husband, her mother, Mrs. Mary J. Byers; three brothers, J. W. Byers, of Marcus, Iowa; R. S. Byers, of Pasadena, Cal.; T. S. Byers, of Maxwell; and one sister, Mrs. J. R. Davidson, of Maxwell, who remain to lament her departure. Early in life she united with the Presbyterian church at Mechanicsville, later transferring her membership to the Presbyterian church at Maxwell, of which she remained a faithful and consistent member until the end. She was a kind and loving wife, a devoted friend and neighbor and was loved by all who knew her. She was of a quiet and retiring disposition and the soul of kindness, loving her home and giving her energies to its comfort and happiness. She will not only be greatly missed by her husband, aged mother, brothers and sister, but by the circle of devoted friends who knew her best, and held her in high esteem, but their loss will be her gain, for she lived and died in the faith of Him, who said: "I am the resurrection and the life. He that believeth on me though he were dead, yet shall he live; and whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die." Funeral services were conducted at the Presbyterian church by her pastor, Dr. Walton, on Friday, January 14, 1916 at 1 p. m. and interment was made at the Peoria cemetery. CARD OF THANKS - We desire to herein express our heartfelt thanks to our friends and neighbors for their kindly help, tender ministries, and the many evidences of sympathy manifested during the sickness and after the death of our departed loved one. - H. N. Burroughs, Mrs. Mary J. Byers, T. S. Byers, Mrs. J. R. Davidson."
