Funeral Services for Mrs. L. E. Patterson Held in Collins

Funeral services for the later Mrs. L. E. Patterson, 64, who passed away at her home in Collins Friday night, Oct. 11, 1946, after an illness of several years, were held at the family home Monday afternoon, Oct. 14 with the Rev. Paul Varce of the United Brethern church in charge.

Mrs. K. W. Tomlinson accompanied by Mrs. Hugh Fertig sang three solos, "The Old Rugged Cross," "Face to Face" and "Beautiful Isle."

The flowers were cared for by Mrs. Lena Renfeldt, Mrs. Thayer Derby, and Mrs. Lloyd Campbell. The casket bearers were chosen from the neighbors and long time friends and were Ray Tiffany, P. J. Wetrick, Lloyd Campbell, Chas. Waltz, Amos Hanson and William Sager. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery Collins. The following brief obituary was read at the services.

Gertrude Blanche Matthews, daughter of George W. and Mary Lucetta Matthews was born Sept. 23, 1882 at Champaign, Ill., and moved with her family at the age of 6 to a southeastern Iowa farm. Seven years later the family moved to Osceola, Iowa where she lived until her marriage to Leo Eldon Patterson on Jan. 1, 1902.

She cam to Collins an began her married life of the old Patterson homestead, two miles northeast of town and lived the remainder of her life in Collins community.

To this union three children were born Carol Arlee Harper of Maxwell, Wanda Aileen Rose of San Francisco and Garth Anson Patterson of Des Moines.

She became a member of the Church of Christ in 1906 and was as activ as her health would permit.

She leaves to mourn her passing her husband and her children, five grandchildren, two brothers, H. J. Matthews of Detroit, Mich. and Ralph Matthews of St. Charles, Ia. Also she leaves nephews, nieces and other relatives as well as a large circle of friends and neighbors.

She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her and to whom her kindness and courage has been an inspiration.

Out of town relatives and friends attending the services were Mrs. Wanda Rose, San Francisco, Mr. and Mrs. Garth Patterson, Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Evans, Wedron, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Oral Halterman and Richard, Chicago, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Paterson, Smithton, Mo.; Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Matthews, St. Charles, Ia., Mr. and Mrs. John Mathews, St. Charles, Ia.; Herman J. Patterson, Iola, Kansas; Mr. and Mrs. O. D. Schlopkohl, Nevada, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. F. B. Wilson, Perry, Ia.; Mr.s G. W. Graham and Wanda, Marshalltown.
