Last Rites Held Tuesday for Mrs. A. C. Enfield
Maxwell, Dec. 28 -- Funeral services for Mrs. A. C. Enfield, 85, were held in Maxwell Tuesday with the Rev. Hugh Guy of the Nevada Christian church officiating.
Elizabeth Estella Bell was one of three children born to Simeon and Nancy Bell, Jan. 24, 1861 and departed this life Dec. 21, 1946 at the age of 85 years, 11 months and 21 days. She was united in marriage to A. C. Enfield March 3, 1888. To this union one child, Mable was born. Besides her husband and daughter left to mourn her death are three grandchildren; Mrs. Aileen Allen, Mrs. Inez Robinson, and Raymond Robertson, also two great grandchildren; Brenda Allen and Larry Robinson, besides a host of other relatives and friends.
At the age of six, Mrs. Enfield with her parents, came from Indiana by covered wagon and settled in the community near Berwick, Iowa. She lived there till she grew to young womanhood, when she moved to a farm four miles south of Maxwell, Iowa, from that time on she has lived in Maxwell and vicinity.
She united with the Christian church in Maxwell in 1896 to which she was a faithful and untiring member till the time of her death.
Mrs. Enfield was a person you had a keen sense of humor and always enjoyed a good laugh, even after her confinement to the home in her last sickness.
For her cheerfullness of disposition she was universally liked and respected by all. And so closes the life of a pioneer and a faithful Christian.
Short funeral services were conducted at the home for the benefit of Mr. Enfield who was not able to go to the church. Mrs. Ray Gooden sang a number and Rev. Hugh Guy of Nevada spoke briefly. The funeral was the the Maxwell Christian church with Rev. Guy in charge, Tuesday, 2:00 p.m. Mrs. Gooden sang three numbers of music.
Burial was in the Maxwell cemetery.
Mr. Enfield plans to stay in his own home. His niece, Lillian Hochstetter, who has been living with the Enfields for the past six months, plans to stay with Mr. Enfield and care for him. His daughter, Mable Robinson, lives close by.
