Services for Wm. A. Oswalt Held Monday

Funeral services for the late William A. Oswalt of near Collins who passed away Saturday afternoon, Dec. 20, 1946, at Deaconess hospital, Marshalltown, were held Monday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Oswalt and at 2:00 o'clock at the local Christian church with the Rev. W. J. Stevens of Washington, Ia., and Rev. Henry Esch of Collins in charge.

Music was furnished by a mixed quartet composed of Mrs. K. W. Tomlinson, Mrs. Ivan Mullihan, Rev. Duane Manning and T. E. Huntrods with Mrs. Hugh Fertig at the piano. The songs were "Old Rugged Cross," "The Lord Knows Why," and "The Lily of the Valley."

The floral offerings were very beautiful and were so numerous they seemed to fill the front of the church. They were arranged by Mrs. Charles Huntrods, Mrs. Ord Smith, Mrs. Lloyd Cummings, Mrs. Alvin Tiffany, Mrs. Dan Wear and Mrs. Lowell Carver.

Interment was in Evergreen cemetery with Charles Huntrods, Alvin Tiffany, William Robinson, Jr., William Huntrods, Harold Mullihan and Donald Williams acting as pallbearers.

The following brief obituary was read in part at the services. William Arthur Oswalt, son of Floyd and Ada Oswalt, was born on a farm near Colo, Ia., July 12, 1921 and departed this life, at Deaconess hospital, Marshalltown, Dec. 20, 1946, after a brief illness. He grew to manhood n the community in which he was born, and graduated in 1938 from the Collins consolidated high school. In Feb., 1944, he was married to Miss Bonnie Mills of Mingo and to then twins were born, Darrell William and Carol Diane, the little boy preceded the father in death.

He was a member of the Collins Church of Christ, being baptized at the age of ten years, and served his church faithfully throughout his life. He was superintendent of the Sunday school at the time of his death.

He is survived by his wife and nine-month-old daughter, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Oswalt, two brothers, Gale and Russell of Kansas City, Mo., three sisters, Mrs. Harold Hale of Collins, Marguerette and Lola at home, also his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. James Oswalt and many other relatives and friends. He was a young man of sterling character and worth and will and be greatly missed by his loved ones and friends.
