Funeral Services Held Tuesday in Collin, Mrs. Walter Thompson

Collins, March 20. Funeral services for the late Mrs. Walter Thompson of Des Moines who passed away early Sunday morning March 16, were held at the Methodist church in Collins, Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock with the local pastor, Rev. Duane Manning in charge. The floral offering were numerous and very lovely.

A mixed quartet composed of Mrs. K. W. Tomlinson, Mrs. L. D. Holland, E. S. Sluntz and T. E. Huntrods with Miss Calla Wood at the piano sang two songs "Face to Face" and "The Upper Gardens."

The ritualistic burial service of the Order of the Eastern Star was given at the close of the service and was beautiful and fitting tribute to Mrs. Thompson who was a charter member of Collins Chapter. Interment was in Evergreen cemetery with J. R. Witmer, S. W. Inman, Steve Marlow, J. E. Hale, J. W. Thompson and W. A. Kitchell acting as honorary pallbearers and K. W. Tomlinson, Lawrence Dodd, Henry Dodd, Dewey Kern, E. A. McCord and Chas. Carr active pallbearers. A brief obituary was read at th service which the following is a part.

Luna Mae Thompson, a daughter of the later Vincent and Hestor Crabb, pioneer residents of this community was born at Pittsburg, Ind., May 23, 1868. She moved with her parents and other members of her family to the Crabb homestead south of Collins as a child and grew to womanhood there.

She was married June 30, 1887 to Walter H. Thompson also of this community and to the union two children were born and they with the husband survive her passing. They are namely Mrs. Forrest Graef of Des Moines, J. B. Thompson of Hedrick and the husband H. H. Thompson of Des Moines.

The greater part of her life was spent in this community. She was a member of the Methodist church, a charter member of the O. E. S. and past member of the Collins El Deen club. Severing her membership with the latter organization when she moved from Collins a few years ago.

She had been in failing health for several years and some time ago suffered a broken hip from which she never recovered.

Besides the husband and two children she is survived by four grand children, and six great grandchildren also a number of nieces and nephews and many more distant relatives.
