Funeral Services Held Wednesday for Bernhard Birkeland
Roland, March 20 -- Funeral services for the late Bernhard Birkeland who passed away last Wednesday night were held on Monday afternoon. A short prayer service was held at Erickson funeral home at 1:30 prior to the service at Bergen's church at two o'clock. The Rev. Allen Nelson was in charge and burial was made in the Roland cemetery. Otto Hanson sang a solo before the service and also after the sermon. The pall bearers were Oscar Cole, Oscar G. Twedt, Tom Sampson, N. B. Nelson, Sam Eggland and John Danielson. Bernhard Birkeland was born on the Birkeland homestead southeast of town on January 7, 1875. He has been in failing health since Christmas. He is survived by his brother, Henry Birkeland of Roland and one sister, Mrs. H. O. Bokken of LuVerne, Minn. His parents, two brothers and four sisters have preceded him in death.
