Mrs. Ludy Huhn Was Laid to Rest Monday Afternoon

Funeral services for the late Mrs. Lucy Huhn were held from the Nevada Christian church at 2:30 Monday afternoon following a brief prayer service at the Ryan Funeral Home with the Reverend Hugh C. Guy officiating at both services.

Mrs. Lyle McConnell and Mrs. Robert Ogden sang "Beautiful Ile of Somewhere" and "Have Thine Own Way, Lord". Mrs. Marlie Lobaugh was at the piano.

The pall bearers were I. W. Tudor, Marlie Lobaugh, Frank Kinsman, Lee Cook, Chas. Knight and A. H. Boten.

The flowers were lovely. They were arranged by Mrs. Lee Cook and Mrs. I. W. Tudor.

Burial was in the Nevada cemetery by the side of the husband who passed away July 11, 1921.

The following brief life story was read by Rev. Guy as part of the last rites.

Mrs. Lucy Huhn, daughter of John and Hannah Kallman, was born at Rantoul, Ill., April 24, 1872, and died at the Mary Greeley hospital, in Ames, Iowa, at 8:00 p.m. last Friday evening, May 30, after a lingering illness of five weeks at the hospital in Ames. Mrs. Huhn was 75 years, 1 month and 6 day old.

Mrs. Huhn was married in Illinois to Daniel B. Huhn on Feb. 15, 1893, and came to Story county, Iowa, with her husband that spring. So she has lived in this community for 54 years. 21 of these years she spent in Nevada. Much of her life was spent on the farm.

To this union nine children were born. Five sons and four daughters survive her. They are Oral Huhn of Ogden, Utah, Loren of Nevada, Lyle K. of Columbus, Ohio, Virgil of Adel, Iowa, Galen of Nevada, and the daughters Miss Lola Huhn, R.N., of Des Moines, Mrs. Leota Shaffer of Nevada, and Mrs. Fern Williams of Granada, Minn. One daughter, Ida Belle, died in infancy. Mr. Huhn also preceded her in death, passing away July 11, 1921. Two sisters have preceded her in death. The husband of the youngest sister is here. All the children are here except Oral of Ogden, Utah, and he was here recently.

Besides the 8 children, Mrs. Huhn is survived by one brother, Chas. J. Kallman of Rantoul, Ill., eleven grand children, and many other more distant relatives and a great host of friends.

Mrs. Lucy Huhn was a good kind mother having reared, on the farm, a fine family in those days without the farm conveniences that the modern farmer possesses. She did her full part, as a mother, in making her contribution to the nation.

Mr. and Mrs. Huhn united with the Christian church here in Nevada in the year 1903. They were both devoted to the cause of Christ until death. Howeer, in recent years because of failing health Sister Huhn was not able to attend church services, yet her heart was in the work.

The pastor who had enjoyed several visits with the deceased was impressed with her potted plants that she loved so much.

Someone has aptly remarked; "A flower is one thing Bod has made and forgot to put a soul into it. Flowers are so expressive of beauty and fragrant, pleasant and the lovely in life."

Among those from out of town attending the services were: G. A. Keal, Rantoul, Ill, Lyle K. Huhn, Columbus, Ohio, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Williams, Norma Gene and Donald, Granada, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Huhn, Adel, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Smay of Coggan.
