Maxwell, June 17 -- Funeral services for Mrs. Rebecca Bennethum was held Tuesday afternoon in the Methodist church in charge of the pastor, the Rev. C. R. Fitz. Mrs. Ted Minear sang "Going Down the Valley" and the "Old Rugged Cross" with Mrs. Arthur Porter accompanist at the piano.
Flower tokens were as usual very beautiful and profuse. Pall bearers were Raymond Hopper, Verle Lawier, Cecil Kitchen, Richard Ballard, Clint Warfield and John Osborn.
Rev. Fitz read the following brief obituary:
"Rebecca Jane Bennethum, daughter of James and Patsy Brown was born May 5, 1864 at Iowa Center and departed this life June 8, 1947 at the Iowa Lutheran hospital in Des Moines at the age of 83 years and three days. On June 2, 1883 she was united in marriage to Daniel D. Bennethum. To this union nine children were born, five of whom survive, three of the children died in infancy and a daughter, Ruth in Dec. 1918. Mrs. Bennethum resided in Iowa Center until the year 1902 when the family moved to Maxwell which has since been her home. Her husband preceded her in death, February 29, 1932. She was a kind and consistant mother and in her passing the surviving members mourn her loss. She was a member of the Methodist church.
Interment was in the family lot in the Iowa Center cemetery.
