Funeral Services For A. L. Grimm Held Sunday
Zearing, Aug. 25--Funeral services for A. L. Grimm were held in the Evangelical United Brethren church on August 17, 1947 with Rev. C. L. Fuller, pastor. Active casket bearers were Delos Cerka, Delos Dakins, Asher Oakes, Everett Wickham, Floyd Steelman and Howard Wickham. Honorary casket bearers were J. A. Johnston, M. E. Dakins, Fred Golly, Russell Golly, Sam Oakes and Arthur Couser.
The following obituary was read:
August Louis Grimm was born June 4, 1875, on a farm north of Nevada. He was the only son of August Henry and Matilda Grimm.
In the spring of 1891, at the age of sixteen years, he came with his parents to the Zearing community. The family settled on the farm northeast of Zearing where Louis was to spend the rest of his life.
On February 17, 1904, Louis married Elsie Viola Shultz of Hubbard, Iowa. Mrs. Grimm died May 2, 1936. A son, Donald, survives him.
Four sisters also survive him. Mrs. Malinda Wolford of Zearing, Miss Clara Grimm of Des Mones, Mrs. Milligan Bell of Salinas, California, and Mrs. LeRoy Estes of Abilene, Texas.
Louis was active for many years in community affairs. He was a township trustee for thirty years. At one time he owned one of the leading Shorthorn cattle herds in this section of Iowa.
Mr. Grimm's health failed several years ago and since that time he had been cared for by his daughter-in-law, Emelie Grimm. On July 29, 1947 he was taken to the St. Thomas Mercy hospital at Marshalltown, Iowa. He died at the hospital on August 13th at the age of 72 years, 2 months and 9 days.
