Funeral Services For Jacob Flora Held Tuesday
Maxwell, Sept. 18 -- Funeral services for Jacob Flora were held on Tuesday afternoon in the Church of Christ at 2:30 with his pastor the Rev. John Sparks officiating. A male quartett composed of Donald Myers, Arnold Scott, O. O. Holtby and Dorus Myers sang "No Night There", and "Good Night Here and Good Morning Up There." Flower tokens were very beautiful and profuse.
Pall-bearers were Frank Nickodemus, Ralph Thompson, M. D. Warner, Cliff Ince, C. I. Kirk and Dale Scott.
Mr. Flora was the first child born in the town of Maxwell.
Rev. Sparks read the brief obituary as follows:
Jacob Henry Flora was born August 8th in Maxwell and died at his home in Maxwell, Sept. 14, 1947 at the age of 65 years, one month and six days. Surviving are his wife Minnie, his mother, Mrs. Hattie Lint, three aunts, Nettie Cooper, Mattie Kellums and Grace Parish and several cousins.
He attended school at Maxwell, completing three years of high school. He farmed and worked in other parts of the state and returned in 1933 to live in Maxwell the remainder of his life. He bore the cross of illness the past fourteen years.
On July 30th 1942 he made his confession to a Rev. Smith at the University hospital at Iowa City. He was baptized and became a member of the Maxwell Church of Christ July 9, 1947.
