Funeral Services In California for Carl M. Durby
Roland, Oct. 11 -- Funeral services for Carl M. Durby of Santa Ana, Calif. who passed away Sept. 9 from a heart attack were held at the H. R. Brown Colonial chapel with Rev. William L. Duerr officiating. Interment was at Fairhaven cemetery.
Carl M. Durby was born on a farm near Fernald in Story County May 20, 1886, and passed away at the the St. Joseph hospital in Santa Ana, Calif., Sept. 9, 1947 at the age of 61 years. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lars Durby. He was baptized and confirmed in the Bergen Lutheran church in Roland and grew to manhood in Story county and worked at farming until later he moved to a farm near Charles City. He retired from farming after a few years and went to Calif. in January 1924 where he worked at the roofing business until her death.
His sister, Mrs. Anton Haugen, received a message Sept. 6 of his critical condition and was at his bedside when he passed away.
He leaves to mourn his passing two sisters, Mrs. Anton Haugen of Des Moines, and Miss Mable Durby of Chicago, Ill., one brother, Tom L. Durby of Minneapolis, Minn. and one niece, Mrs. Lucile Durby Wilkins of North Hollywood, Calif., besides a host of other relatives and friends.
