Last Rites for Martha Engelson At Garden City

Funeral services for Martha Engelson were held at the Stavanger church in Garden City Nov. 3 with the Rev. P. L. Mork, pastor, officiating. Greetings and a brief message were given by the Rev. A. J. Bringle of Story City who during the past five years had ministered to the spiritual needs of the departed.

Chester Pearson sang a solo at the funeral home and one at the church; two numbers were sung by the Stavanger choir. Many floral offerings and $137.00 in memorial gifts were given in her honor. Interment was in the Garden City cemetery by the side of her husband.

The pallbearers were Maynard Seversid, Earl and Cecil Engelson, Merle and Duane Engelson and Robert Young.

Obituary

Martha Engelson, daughter of Ole and Julia Luglan, was born in Tjelmeland, Stavanger, Norway on March 17, 1856, and passed away at the age of 91 years, 7 month and 14 days.

She came with her parents to America in the summer of 1856 to Pontiac, Illinois where she grew to womanhood.

On March 31, 1880 she was united in marriage to Engle Engelson. To this union 10 children were born. Her husband and four children have preceded her in death.

In 1882 the family moved to Humboldt county, Iowa and later moved to Hardin county in 1898. In 1940 Mrs. Engelson went to Story City to make her home with her daughter, Bertha, where she passed away.

Mrs. Engelson laves to mourn her death six children, James of Kettle Falls, Washington, Oliver, Alden, Bertha (Mrs. John Severaid) of Story City, Melvin and Elmer of Hubbard and Mamie (Mrs. Ward Rierson) of Nevada. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren and a sister Mrs. Knute Olson, of Humboldt, Iowa.

She was a kind and loving mother and during her long illness was always patient and smiling to those around her and also to her visitors. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
