Final Services For Raymond S. Aasheim

Brief services were held for Pfc. Raymond S. Aashiem of the U. S. Marines in the Erickson Funeral parlors in Roland in charge of Rev. H. Bakke. Mrs. O. E. Ritland sang "Shall We Meet Beyond the River," after which the pastor gave a brief talk.

After the services the cortege proceded to the Warren township cemetery, where he was buried. Pastor Bakke sand "I'm But a Stranger Here at the graveside.

Beautiful bouquets of flowers were in evidence, also gifts of money in his memory for the Bethany Church Building fund and for missions.

The pall bearers were Obed Ritland, Alvin Twedt, Ronnie Jondal, Lawrence Knaphus, Luther Holland and a brother-in-law, Roy Carlson.

Obituary

Raymond S. Aasheim, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Aasheim, was born on a farm near McCallsburg on December 10, 1923. He moved with his parent to a farm five miles northwest of Roland and attended Roland High school, graduating with the class of 1941.

He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on Dec. 7, 1942, receiving his training at the Marine Corps training station at San Diego, Calif.

He was sent overseas in June 1943, and was in combat at Cape Gloucester in the New Britain Islands and from there was sent to the Palau group in the Pacific. He was a machine gunner in the special weapons battalion of the First Marines and was killed in action on Sept. 17, 1944, on Peleliu Island in the Palau group.

Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Aascheim; two sisters, Helen and Astrid, and three brothers, Sherman, Harlan and Leslie.
