Mrs. Helen Halverson Dies in Ottumwa Sunday

SLATER -- Mrs. Helen Halverson, 87, died Sunday morning, 10:30, at the home of her daughter Mrs. Raymond Dueland in Ottumwa, where she had been visiting since Thanksgiving. Mrs. Halveron was a lifelong resident of the Slater community.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 Wednesday afternoon at the Bethlehem Lutheran church in Slater with Rev. P. E. Onstad officiating. Burial will be in the Bethlehem cemetery.

Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Jenny Reinertson, Mrs. Martha Fretty, both of Des Moines, Mrs. Raymond Dueland of Ottumwa, Mrs. Clarence Walker and Mrs. Randy Twitt, both of Slater.

Last Rites Red For Mrs. Helen Halverson

SLATER -- Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon for Mrs. Helen Halverson. A prayer service at 1:30 p.m. at the Riis Funeral home at 2:00 at the Bethlehem Lutheran church. Rev. P. E. Onstad was in charge of the services and preached on the theme "The Glory of Christian Old Age."

Robert Weeks sang "Den Store Hvide Flok." Mrs. Theo Collvedt of Holmes sang "O Take My Hand Dear Father." Pastor Onstad sang "From Place to Place the Christian Goes." The floral tributes were cared for by Mrs. Ed Twit and Mrs. Albert Alleman. There were many gifts to worthy dauses in memory of Mrs. Halverson.

Pallbearers were grandchildren of the deceased, Everett Twit, Hubert Twit, John Walker, Ralph Fretty, Dale Dueland and Robert Reinertson. Interment was in the Bethlehem cemetery.

Obituary

Helga Nervig Halverson, daughter of Owen and Jane Nervig, was born in Hollandale, Wisc., Sept. 5, 1864. At the age of nine she moved with her parent to Iowa and Story county, where she resided until her death on January 6 at the age of 87 years and 4 months.

She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church of which she was a lifelong member. On Dec. 18, 1885 he was married to Engebrit Halverson. To this union five daughters were born. Her husband preceded her in death in 1907.

She is survived by her five daughters, Mrs. Randy Twit and Mrs. Ella Walker of Slater, Mrs. Jennie Reinertson and Mrs. Martha Fretty of Des Moines and Mrs. Ruth Dueland of Ottumwa. Other survivors include 15 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one brother, Amos Nervig of Polk City.
