Funeral Services For Mrs. Belle Dodd

Funeral services were held last Thursday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock from the Collins Methodist Church for Mrs. Belle Dodd who passed away Tuesday morning at the Story County Hospital in Nevada.

Services were in charge of the minister the Rev. Robert P. Robinson.

Music was furnished by Lowell Holmes and Mrs. Donald Pointer, vocalists and Mrs. C. R. Stone pianist, the selections being "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Beutiful Isle of Somewhere."

The floral offerings were cared fro by Mrs. Ord Smith, Mrs. Oscar Serbein and Mrs. Flora Morrison. Casket bearers were Marvin Stevens, Ronald Stratton, Wes Borts, Ralph Swalwell, Dwayne Brown and Harold Brown.

Interment was in the Collins Evergreen Cemetery.

Obituary

Belle Wiley, daughter of James and Juna Deeter Wiley was born February 2, 1875 in Clear Creek Township, Jasper County, Iowa and departed this life at the Story County Hospital, Nevada, Iowa Tuesday morning April 19, 1955 at the age of 80 years, 2 months, and 7 days.

She grew to womanhood in this community and on Feb. 25, 1894 was united in marriage to Dennis Dodd.

They established their home on a farm south of Collins and lived in that vicinity until they retired in 1940. To this union five children were born, four of whom survive. they are Rhoda (Mrs. Ray Brown) of Maxwell, Henry Dodd of Collins, Jessie (Mrs. Myrl Brown) and Irene (Mrs. Tom Stratton) both of Collins.

She was preceded in death by her husband who died May 27, 1944 and a daughter Alda (Mrs. John Huntrods) who passed away in 1918 Besides her children she is survived by 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Clara Signs of Mingo and Mrs. Gertie Ferguson of Clinton, Missouri. The deceased was a semi-invalid for a number of years but throughout her illness found enjoyment in her home, family and friends. Her entire life was spent in the community and her many friends deeply regret her passind.

*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: This obituary gives the date of birth for Belle (Wiley) Dodd at 2 February 1875 but her grave stone gives her date of birth as 1874.

If she died April 29, 1955 as stated, and lived to be 80 years, 2 months and 7 days as stated, her date of birth would be 12 February 1875.
