Funeral Services Held For Mrs. Emma Dodd In Collins Christian Church
COLLINS -- Funeral services were held for Mrs. Emma Dodd Sunday afternoon, Nov. 28, in the Collins Church of Christ. The Rev. Henry Esch was the pastor in charge.
The church was filled with sorrowing relatives and friends paying their last tribute to this beloved mother and neighbors. The deceased had planned all the funeral services including her favorite song and scripture, including the 23rd Psalm.
Music was provided by Mrs. Kenneth Tomlinson, Mrs. L. D. Holland and Miss Calla Wood with Mrs. C. R. Stone as pianist. The songs sung by the trio were "God's Tomorrow," and "God Be With You Till We Meet Again." Mrs. Tomlinson sang a solo "In the Garden."
Mrs. Ora Hanson and Mrs. Dewey Kern took charge of the many beautiful flowers.
Casket bearers were members of the Collins American Legion post including B. L. Keagle, Andrew Johnson, J. R. Armstrong, L. D. Holland, Dewey Kern and Floyd Oswalt.
Interment was in Collins Evergreen cemetery.
Relatives and friend attending services from a distance were from Baxter, Des Moines, Blairsburg, Rhodes, Mingo, Ames, Roland, Nevada, Maxwell, Haverhill, Colo and Davenport.
Obituary
Emma Dodd, daughter of Elizabeth and Joseph Halterman, was born near Palmyra, Warren county, Iowa, Oct. 8, 1875, and died at St. Thomas Mercy hospital Marshalltown, Iowa, Nov. 26, 1948 at the age of 73 years, one month and 18 days.
She was united in marriage to John Dodd, Feb. 28, 1894. To this union were born 12 children, Amos, of Baxter, Floyd of Des Moines, Vern of Des Moines, Clarence of Blairsburg, Roy of Des Moines, Dennis of Davenport, Ralph who died at the age of eight, John, Lawrence and Milo of Collins and Mrs. Clarence (Iva) Goodman of Haverhill, and another daughter who died in infancy.
Her father and mother died more than 40 years ago. Her husband, John, died in 1926. Four sisters and eight brothers preceded her in death, she was the last member of the family.
She accepted her Christ as her personal Savior at an early age and became a member of the Collins Church of Christ where she remained a faithful member until the time of her death. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Loyal Women's Sunday school class.
She leaves to mourn her passing 10 children, 36 grandchildren, a large number of great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
