Hold Final Rites For Leo Croker

Burial services were held at St. James cemetery in Colo, Monday afternoon, March 7, for Leo Croker, 57, of Ackley, Iowa, who passed away in St. Francis hospital at Waterloo, Saturday morning, March 5, where he had been a patient for several days.

High requiem mass was held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic church in Ackley.

Obituary

Leo Croker was born near Colo, Feb. 8, 1892, his parents being the late Mr. and Mrs. Croker. He received his early education in the Colo schools, graduating with the class of 1911. He taught rural school in southern Iowa and for two years at West Union. He received a bachelor of science degree in commercial education at the University of Iowa in 1924.

While serving as superintendent of schools at Lawler, he married Hertha Stebens of Davenport in 1925. They moved to Ackley in 1928 and purchased the cafe of Gus Pappadake's and was manager of the business at the time of his death. He also operated small greenhouse commercially and had served as a judge at many flower shows. He was active in civic affairs of Ackley, was third vice-president of the Iowa State Federation of Garden clubs and a member of the Ackley Garden club, the Commerical club and the American Legion, having served in World War I.

Survivors

Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Mary, who is a student in the college of medicine at the University of Iowa; one son, Jack, at home; two sisters, Mrs. Bert Hopkins of Colo and Mrs. George Neidert of Nevada, and three brothers, James A. Croker of Colo, Pat E. Croker of Des Moines and Will J. Croker of Dallas City, Illinois.

The relatives from a distance who attended the services at Ackley and Colo were Mr. and Mrs. P. E. Croker of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. George Neidert of Nevada, J. W. Croker of Dallas City, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. Warren J. Bowman and children, Mary Frances Clayton and Yvonne of Dallas City, Ill., and Mr. and Mrs. Russell Hopkins of Ames.

A dinner was served by the Ladies of St. Mary's at the church parlors for the family and relatives at one o'clock.
