Funeral Services For James Cook Held on Sunday
Funeral services for James Cook, 75, lifetime resident of Story county, were held at the Nevada Christian church at 2:30 Sunday afternoon, March 13, with the Rev. Hugh C. Guy officiating.
Max McConnell sang "In the Garden" with Mrs. A. E. Hale at the piano.
The casket bearers were Kenneth Cook, Max Cook, Robert Clark, Ray Cook Jr., Victor Selby and Leonard Staker.
Burial was in the Nevada cemetery.
The following brief story of the deceased was read during the funeral service.
Obituary
James Thomas cook was born in Story county, Iowa on August 30, 1873 and passed away at the Methodist hospital, Des Moines, Iowa, March 11, 1949 at the age of 75 years, 6 months and 11 days.
He was the third son of James W. and Sarah Cook.
On November 16, 1882 he was united in marriage to Addie May Dean, who preceded him in death on November 21, 1946.
To this union were born seven children, namely Mrs. Ruth Bryant of Nevada, Iowa; Ray of Ames, Iowa, Virgil, Howard and James Jr. of DeKalb, Illinois; Don of Osceola, Iowa, and Mrs. Eva Anderson who passed away on September 8, 1919.
Preceding him in death were four brothers, George, John, Lewis and Fred and two sisters, Anna Miller Fraley and Mary Handsaker. A brother and sister died in infancy.
Thos left to mourn his passing besides his children are ten grandchildren, five great grandchildren, four step grandchildren and one great step-grandchild and many friends.
Out of Town
Those present at the funeral as relatives and friends out of town were: Mr. and Mrs. Ray Cook of Ames, Ia., Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Cook; Mr. and Mrs. Howard Cook and Mr. and Mr. James Cook Jr. all of DeKalb, Ill., and Mr. Don Cook of Osceola, Iowa. Others outside of town in attendance were from Des Moines, Webster City, Iowa, Ames, and Belle Plaine.
