Isabella Hamaker Brown, daughter of a Methodist preacher, was born in Franklin county, Ohio, Sept. 29, 1837, where she lived until 17 years of age, when she moved to Ogle county, Illinois where she lived until 1877. She then moved to Story county, Iowa, where she lived until relieved by death April 21, 1902, aged 64 years, 6 months, 22 days. She was married to John Brown Oct. 4, 1860. To them were born seven children, two of which preceded her. She joined the United Brethren church in 1895. Her sickness was of months duration, but she bore it all with Christian fortitude. Her funeral was preached in the United Brethren church by Rev. O. L. Wilson in the presence of a large audience, which speaks well of her standing in the community.
