Mrs. Horace Elliott Services Held At Methodist Church

The Nevada Methodist church was filled Saturday afternoon with sorrowing relatives and friends in attendance at the funeral of Mrs. Horace Elliott, 62, of Cottonwood, California, former Nevada and Maxwell resident whose sudden death on Monday, May 2, came as a distinct shock.

The body of Mrs. Elliott had arrived in Nevada early Saturday morning, accompanied by the husband, Horace (Jack) and son Max.

The casket in the Methodist church was completely surrounded with beautiful flowers, mutely suggestive of the love in which the deceased was held, and the sympathy felt for those bereaved.

Rev. O. E. Cooley, pastor of the deceased during her residence in Nevada officiated at he funeral service and paid a fine tribute to the life of the deceased and brought words of spiritual comfort to those sorrowing.

Miss Jean Mohler of Maxwell sang "Sunrise Tomorrow" and "In the Garden". She was accompanied by Mrs. Glover Ambrose of Nevada.

The pallbearers were nephews of the deceased, Bob and Frank Elliott of Wayzata, Minn., Morris Christy of Cedar Rapids, Richard Christy of Waukee, Marshall Applegate of Waukee and Clifford Applegate of Maxwell. Burial was in the Nevada cemetery.

Among the large number of relatives and friends in attendance at the funeral were those from Cedar Rapids, Waukee, Dexter, Minneapolis, Minn., Jefferson, Chicago and many from Nevada, Maxwell, Ames and possibly other towns in Story county.

Obituary

Carrie Fern Elliott, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Applegate, was born at Plattsmouth, Nebr., October 14, 1886; she passed away at her home in Cottonwood, California, May 2, 1949.

Most of her early years were spent in Story county. On Feb. 26, 1918, she was united in marriage to Horace Elliott. To this marriage one son, Max was born. The family lived in Nevada, Fernald, and Waukee until 1943, when they moved to Cottonwood, California.

She leaves to mourn her death her husband, Horace, and her son, Max, a brother, Robert Applegate and a sister, Mrs. A. M. Christy, both of Maxwell; also her mother-in-law, Mrs. Edith Elliott of Nevada and quite a number of nieces and nephews and other relatives. Her brother, Arthur passed away in 1944.

She was normally well until immediately before her death, he passing being a great shock to her family and friends.

Mrs. Elliott was interested in music and for many years gave music instruction. She often played for church and Sunday school services. She also had a hobby of collecting sacred music.

In early life she united with the Methodist church and was a member of the Nevada church at the time of her death. She was teacher for several years in the Methodist Sunday school.

Her chief interest has always been her home, and much of it centered around the interests and welfare of her son, Max.

A funeral service was also held at Cottonwood, Calif., on Wednesday, May 4, at 11 a.m.
