Hold Final Services For Lewis J. Leland

Funeral services for Lewis Leland, life-time Cambridge resident, were held Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 28, in the Cambridge United Brethren church, in charge of Rev. C. E. Lookingbill of Nevada.

Faye Nerness, accompanied at the piano by Mrs. John Dyer, sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Rock of Ages".

Mrs Helen Bullard and Mrs. Mathilda Hill had charge of the many beautiful flowers.

Pallbearers were Forrest Hatfield, John Crosser, Ora Hitchcock, Neal O'Mara, Leonard Harrison and Harve McHone.

Obituary

Lewis John, eldest son of Ole and Bertha Leland, was born July 4, 1885, at Cambridge. Here he attended schools and the U. B. church, of which his parents were members. He grew to manhood in Cambridge, where he spent his entire life.

On Oct. 21, 1926, at Nevada, he was united in marriage with Mrs. Ida Elliott of Cambridge. Three children came to bless their home, Arnold, Dorothy and Doris.

His failing health had prevented his working the past two months and as he gradually grew worse on the advice of his physician he entered the Lutheran hospital in Des Moines on Saturday, Sept. 24, for further medical treatment, but died at the age of 64 years, two months and 20 days before he could get medical aid.

Survivors are his wife, Ida; one son, Arnold; two daughters, Dorothy and Doris; two step-sons; Donald Elliott of Cambridge and Howard Elliott of Whittier, Alaska; three step-daughters, Mrs. Fred Hensley of Des Moines, Mrs. Byron Nerness and Mrs. Edward Gill of Cambridge; two brothers, Arthur of Collins and Andrew of Bothell, Wash.; three sisters, Marie and Anna Leland of Cambridge and Mrs. Glenni Tillotson of Seattle, Washington. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
