Services in Slater For Bert Clark, 71

Services were held Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 6, for Bert Clark, who passed away at his home in Slater Sunday afternoon, Sept. 3, following a long illness. A prayer service was held at the Riis Funeral home in 1:30.

The Rev. Fred Martin, pastor of the Slater Methodist church, was in charge. Rev. and Mrs. Martin sang a duet, "Safe in the Arms of Jesus."

Funeral services were held from the Slater Methodist church at 2 o'clock. Rev. and Mrs. Martin sang "The Lord Is My Shepherd." Mrs. Wayne Severson and Mrs. Roland Swanson sang a duet, "Th Old Rugged Cross." The service with a duet , "Beyond the Sunset" by Rev. and Mrs. Martin. Mrs. Phil Rood served as pianist.

Rev. Martin used Psalm 107:29-30 as his text with the theme "Jesus Saviour Pilot Me".

The many and beautiful flowers were cared for by Mrs. Stanley Mosey and Mrs. John Gunerson. There were also many gifts to missions in memory of the deceased.

Casket bearers were John Gunderson, Tom Weeks, Raymond Ryen, Clarence Alleman and Elmer and Art Torgerson.

Obituary

Bert Clark was born in the Garden Prairie community on May 25, 1879. His parents were Marshall and Mary Clark, who with two brothers and a sister preceded him in death.

On June 20, 1905, he was united in marriage to Alma Parker of Des Moines. To this union were born five children: Emmett, Mrs. Edith Smithhart and Mrs. Lois Trotter, all of Des Moines, Mrs. Laurine Jennings of Cambridge and Floyd who passed away on Oct. 19 1941.

Following Floyd's death Mr. Clark's health began to fail an the following year he and Mrs. Clark retired from the farm and moved into Slater, where they have since made their home.

Mr. Clark had been bedfast for the past three months and had been seriously ill on several occasions but his great spirit kept him smiling and he continued his interest in life and in his family to whom he was devoted.

On Thursday, Aug. 31, his condition became grave and he passed away peacefully Sunday afternoon, Sept. 3, at the age of 71 years, three months and nine days.

He was a life-long member of the Methodist church and was a faithful attendant as long as his health permitted.

Besides his immediate family he is survived by nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren as well as numerous other relatives an a host of friends.
