Last Rites Held For Cornelius Dirksen, Monday at Sumner

Funeral services were held for Cornelius E. Dirksen, who died Saturday, Sept. 16, following a stroke at his home in Sumner, from the First Methodist church in Sumner at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon. The Rev. M. M. Schaper had charge of the services. Interment was in the Wilson Grove cemetery at Sumner.

Obituary

C. E. Dirksen was born at Chapin, Ia. on Nov. 17, 1882, son of John and Lena Dirksen. He lived and grew to manhood in Alexander, Ia., where he attended the public schools; he also went to school a short time in Lincoln, Neb.

On Sept. 6, 1906, he was united in marriage to Miss Lillian Crouse at Parkersburg, Ia., where the family moved to Nevada. In 1929 the family established their home in Sumner where Mr. Dirksen lived until the time of his death.

While at Sumner, he was employed at the Wescott and Winks poultry farm, and then became the Water and Street commissioner. He was generous, a diligent worker and a lover of children. He was also very fond of flowers.

As a member of the First Methodist church at Sumner, he supported it with his attendance and his gifts.

Survivors

Mourning his loss are his wife, Lillian; three sons, John of Waterloo, Robert of Guthrie Center and Raymond of Fredrika; three daughters, Mildred, Mrs. C. B. Cowen of Waterloo, Avis, Mrs. Everett O'Brien of Sumner, and Jane, Mrs. D. E. Sandstrom of Kopura, Japan. Also three brothers, Ole of Ames, Reinhart of Pampa, Tex., and Herman of Mason City; three sisters, Anna Dirksen of Nevada, Mrs. Guy Hobenicht of Grundy Center, and Mrs. Lew Hansen of Nevada; and 14 grandchildren and a host of friends.
