Rites in Cambridge For George Clawson

Funeral services for George Clawson were held Monday afternoon, Aug. 28, from the Cambridge United Brethren church with the Rev. Mark Wetteland in charge, assisted by the Rev. Peder Buland.

The flowers were many and beautiful.

A quartet consisting of Kermit Griffith, Arthur Kalsem, Leland and Earl Gardner sang "The Old Rugged Cross," "The Beautiful Land" and Arthur Kalsem sang "Face to Face", accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Elsie Webb.

Casket bearers were the deceased's six grandsons, Bruce and Don Yungclas, Wrex Wilson, Roger Thorson and James and Gale Clawson. Interment was made in the Cambridge cemetery.

Obituary

George Clawson was born at Cambridge, Iowa, Sept. 17, 1874. He lived his entire life in that vicinity. He was the youngest of three children born to Robert and Caroline Clawson. His father passed away when he was 11 months old and his mother departed from this life at the age of 83. Two sisters also preceded him in death.

George received his education in the Cambridge public school. He was a member of the former K P lodge.

On November 29, 1906, he was united in marriage to Mrs. Talitha Wilson. They made their home on a farm west of Cambridge. To this union was born one son, Dwight Claude, who died a the age of three years. Two years ago, because of declining health, they moved into a newly built home at Cambridge.

Recently, George had been seriously ill on several occasions, but his great spirit kept him smiling and he continued his interest in life and in his family.

Two and one-half weeks ago he was again taken to Iowa Lutheran hospital at Des Moines where his condition became grave. He passed away Friday, Aug. 25, at 1:50 p. m. at the age of 75 years, 11 months and eight days.

Surviving

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Talitha Clawson of Cambridge; three sons, Ross and Gale of Houston, Tex., and Wrex of Cambridge, three step-children Kenneth Wilson of Cambridge, Guy Wilson of Kelley, and Mrs. Ethel Yungclas of Webster City; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Those attending the rites from a distance came from Houston, Texas, Webster City, Ames, Marshalltown, Dallas Center, Kelley, Grinnell, Elkhart, Des Moines and Nevada.
