Obituary
Gertrude E. Knoke, daughter of Orlando Pete and Margaret McConnell, was born in Keetsville, Mo., on Sept. 18, 1877. On Nov. 8, 1913, she was united in marriage at Decorah, Iowa, to Chris Knoke. He passed away on Feb. 21, 1936, in Story City.
Mrs. Knoke devoted 35 to 40 years of her life in serving Story City and community as a practical nurse. Thus, there are many who remember her work of Christian service from the times when she nursed them back to health.
She was taken to the Methodist hospital Des Moines, for an operation on her eyes. Following this, other conditions and complications developed; and, after spending some nine weeks in the hospital, death claimed her. She passed to her eternal reward early last Friday morning, Aug. 11, 1950, at the age of 72 years, 10 months and 23 days.
Mrs. Knoke was a member of Grace Evangelical United Brethren church, Eastern Star, White Shrine and Rebekahs.
Preceding her in death were her husband, three brothers: James Ed., William S. and Pete McConnell. The two surviving sisters are: Mrs. Lou Prince of Story City and Edith Will of Chicago.
