Last Rites For Mrs. Ellen Elliott

Last rites were held Sunday, Aug. 13, at 2:30 p. m. from the Adams funeral home in Ames, for Mrs. Ellen M. Elliott, 307 East Third street, who died Aug. 11.

Obituary

Ellen Miami Harris, daughter of Amos and Sarah Jane Harris, was born Feb. 28, 1862, in the vicinity of Iowa Center, Story county, Ia.

On Jan. 24, 1884 she married John C. Elliott, son of Matthew and Sarah Ann Elliott. To this union were born four children, John Matthew, Bessie Sarah, George William, and Nina Luella.

After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Elliott lived in South Dakota for about four years, then settled on a farm near Ames in 1888, where they lived for many years.

In 1901 they purchased a little home at 307 Third street in Ames. Mr. Elliott died there in 1907.

To Mrs. Elliott, who insisted on living in the little home alone until the time of her death, it was an "earthly shrine." She love to have company, and many happy hours were spent with friends and relatives. She was always cheerful, and the twinkling smile in her blue eyes were like little mirrors reflecting the happiness of her soul.

She was a wonderful wife and mother, and was greatly loved by all who knew her.

Survivors

Surviving are one son, George W. (Bill) of Batavia, one daughter, Bessie Ragsdale of Ames, one brother, John Washington Harris of Fairview, S. Dak., five grandchildren, one living in Batavia and four in Ames, and four great-grandchildren, all living in Ames, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Preceding her in death were her husband, John Clarkson Elliott, a son, John Matthew, a daughter, Nina Luella, a brother, James and two grandsons, George Otis and Matthew L. Elliott.
