Hold Final Services For Tom M. Johnson

Funeral services for the late Tom M. Johnson were held Monday afternoon from the Presbyterian church in McCallsburg with the Rev. J. D. Ransom in charge.

Miss Catherine Craig and Mrs. F. E. Nail sang 3 hymns, "Nearer My Go to Thee", "Beyond the Sunset" and "God Be With You Till We Meet Again". Miss Cleo Tett accompanied them and played appropriate piano music throughout the rites.

The flowers were cared for by Mrs. Earl Hanson and Mrs. LeRoy Ringgenberg. There were several gifts to missions and other causes in memory of Mr. Johnson.

Casket bearers were George Auestad, Syvert Holland, W. J. Hall, Andy Thompson, William Tett and F. E. Nail. Interment was in the McCallsburg cemetery.

Obituary

Thomas Martin Johnson, eldest son of Peter Johannson and Marie Helena Mattieson, was born in Berlin, Germany, Oct. 28, 1868, and died at this home in McCallsburg on July 22, 1950.

Tom came to America alone when still a boy and settled in Marshalltown, where he became a United States citizen on Oct. 31, 1892.

He truly appreciated the privileges of this country and continued to exercise his rights as a citizen as long as it was physically possible to do so.

He was married to Martha Caltvedt in Marshalltown on May 5, 1887, and to this union two children were born: Sybl, who died in infancy, and Joseph, who now lives at Cooper, Iowa.

Martha having died Sept. 15, 1908, he was again married on March 1, 1916 to Verna Springer. To this union four children were born: Leslie of Ames, Thomas, Jr., of Story City, Virgil of Ellsworth and Mary, now Mrs. Andy McGuire of Newton.

Survivors

Surviving are his wife, four sons, one daughter, seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren and one brother, Peter, in Germany.

He had been a shut in since November of 1948.
